Portaferry sits at the narrow entrance of Strangford Lough in County Down, where the lough's tidal channel generates some of the fastest water in the British Isles — but at slack water during neap tides, it becomes a drift diver's paradise. Plumose anemones, soft corals and sea fans colonise every surface; seals drift alongside you through the narrows; visibility can reach 8m in good conditions.
