About Clare Island

Clare Island guards the entrance to Clew Bay in County Mayo, with vertical walls on its south and west sides descending 40m through cold Atlantic water rich with life. The sheer rock faces are covered in dead man's fingers, plumose anemones and sea fans; grey seals investigate divers throughout every dive; and the occasional basking shark passes in the water column in late spring. It's a remote, advanced dive — charter from Roonagh Pier at Louisburgh — with conditions that reward planning and perfect the day they arrive.
