About Killary Harbour

Killary Harbour is Ireland's only true fjord — a 16km glaciated sea inlet on the border of Galway and Mayo that reaches depths of 35m and is sheltered enough to dive in almost any surface weather. The walls are colonised by plumose anemones, spider crabs, feather stars and soft corals, while the muddy channel floor holds flatfish and spider crabs. It's a genuinely protected dive even when Atlantic storms lash the exposed coast, and the dramatic mountain scenery makes the surface interval memorable.
