About Scapa Flow

Scapa Flow in Orkney is widely regarded as the world's greatest wreck diving destination. Seven German warships scuttled by their crews in June 1919 — including the battleships SMS König, SMS Kronprinz Wilhelm and SMS Markgraf — lie intact at 24–45m in Orkney's sheltered inland sea, their superstructures colonised by anemones, sea fans and schools of saithe. Visibility commonly reaches 10–15m and currents are minimal inside the Flow. Technical divers have additional access to deeper sections; sport divers can penetrate upper decks. Charters run year-round from Stromness and Houton.
