About Aran Islands

The three Aran Islands — Inis Mór, Inis Meáin and Inis Oírr — guard the mouth of Galway Bay and offer some of the most dramatic dive terrain in Connacht. Sea caves, natural archways and deep walls descend to 30m with consistent Atlantic visibility reaching 10–15m in summer. Basking sharks pass through in late spring and early summer. Inis Mór has a small dive operator; alternatively, charters run from the mainland at Rossaveal. The exposed southwest sides require care with swell — the northeast faces are considerably more protected.
