Kilkee sits on the Clare coast where the Atlantic carves a horseshoe bay lined with pollock holes and natural rock pools that extend underwater into a maze of low-profile reefs, crevices and overhangs. Depth reaches 20m on the outside reefs but the inner pools are beginner-friendly at 3–8m. Octopus are regularly sighted here — unusually common for Irish waters — alongside sea urchins, spiny starfish and carpets of anemones.
