About Plymouth Sound

Plymouth Sound holds HMS Scylla — a Royal Navy Type 12M frigate sunk in 2004 as England's first purpose-built artificial reef — in 24–27m of sheltered water. The wreck is now carpeted in jewel anemones, dead man's fingers and sea fans, and provides a vertical dive experience from deck to keel. Beyond Scylla, Plymouth's natural reefs, the breakwater and multiple historic wrecks make the Sound one of the most productive dive areas in southwest England. The sheltered harbour means conditions are good even when the Channel is rough.
