About Sherkin Island

Sherkin Island lies just 10 minutes by ferry from Baltimore in Roaringwater Bay, and its underwater terrain — mixed reefs, sandy passages and kelp beds between 5–20m — holds an impressive cast: sunfish circling in open water from June to September, grey seals cruising the reef edges, and sprawling fields of native crawfish that have all but disappeared from more accessible Irish sites. The island's north shore offers sheltered dives even in moderate Atlantic swells.
