About Valentia Island

Valentia Island sits off the Kerry coast, accessible by bridge at Portmagee, with a sheltered harbour that serves as a launch point for the famous Skellig Islands 12km to the southwest. The island's own reefs — particularly the vertical walls on the outer west coast — descend past 35m and are carpeted with jewel anemones and nudibranchs. Bottlenose and common dolphins regularly pass through, and Valentia offers more protection than the Skelligs when Atlantic swells build, making it a reliable alternative base for west Kerry diving.
